September is Gynecological Cancer Month. In Shirley’s memory, The Squirrel’s Nest will be hosting two charity quilt events in August and September. The first fundraiser will be a charity blotto. Starting August 1, 2008, the Nest will be handing out fabric packets with the quilts’ peach/teal/white theme. For every block turned in by September 1, you will receive one entry into the drawing for shop gift cards and prizes. The quilts that are made from these blocks will be raffled after the quilt show in February 2009 and the proceeds will be donated to the Gynecological Cancer Foundation in Chicago, IL. The second fundraiser will be a Quilt-In on September 20—21 at The Squirrel’s Nest. At this event we will be making lap quilts that will be given to women undergoing treatment for cancer in Sierra Vista. Participants are asked to bring quilt fabric scraps to the event. The event will run from 9am to 4pm both Saturday and Sunday. Breakfast and lunch swill be provided. There is a limit of 20 participants for each day so sign up early. The Squirrel’s Nest will be accepting donations of fabric scraps for the event from August 1 through September 21. |
